Executive Summary
Mission Statement: The FUTURE Foundation’s mission is to fund a California State University education for students who do not have the means to attend and graduate college.
The FUTURE Foundation is a non-profit corporation that provides both volunteer mentoring and funding to students in support of their college education.
The FUTURE Board of Directors are united to give local students hope in reaching their future college dreams through mentoring and scholarships.
In addition to providing each student a multi-year college scholarship for up-to five years, FUTURE also provides eight years of guidance through a unique mentoring program. The logenvity of the mentoring program is the key to success for the students. The ultimate gola for all FUTURE students it to earn a college degree.
FUTURE students are assigned an adult mentor who shadows the students, providing advice, assistance and motivation to help students succeed in reaching the goal of a college degree. The mentor not only guides the student through the college application process but assists in life’s everyday complicated and hard decisions to help encourage and guide the student toward college graduation. The purpose of the mentoring program is to support students on the pathway to college graduation, including help with professional role modeling, developing positive decision making skills, understanding the connection between school and professional careers, accessing college and career planning resources, and interacting with high school and college administration.
History
The
FUTURE Foundation was founded in concept in 2001 and incorporated
in the state of California in January, 2002. In June, 2003
the Foundation received tax-exempt status as a 501 (c) (3)
non-profit organization from the Internal Revenue Service.
In 2005, Grant Napear (play-by-play announcer for the Sacramento Kings and KHTK Sports 1140 radio host) stepped up to support the FUTURE Foundation through his "Fairway to the FUTURE" golf tournament, as well as to become an active board member and volunteer mentor.
In 2006, the orgnanization took the name of the "FUTURE Foundation of Sacramento."
In 2007, the first group of students were accepted into the College Program.
