Who should apply?
Students in the Sacramento region from historically low-income/disadvantaged families that lack the experience of a college education are encouraged to apply.

The FUTURE Foundation scholarship selection process is based on five factors:
- Students who are currently in their sophomore year of high school/10th grade and plan to graduate high school Spring of 2014 and enter a bachelor's degree-granting college Fall of 2014.
- Financial need / low-income family (family size and income are considered, see below)
- Demonstrated commitment to and achievement in academics (prefer GPA 3.0 or above)
- Students who would be a 'first generation college student' (first in their family to attend and graduate college)
- Motivation to receive mentoring from a professional volunteer

It is not the mission of the FUTURE Foundation to attempt to rehabilitate teens that have habitual trouble with the law, gangs, drugs, or their commitment to academic performance. Instead, the FUTURE Board of Directors look for students who fit this profile:
- In good standing with school administration and faculty
- Involved family who is determined for student to succeed academically
- Proactive with locating and accessing resources
- Good communication skills - articulate when advocating for self, strong writing skills, prompt responses to inquiries
- Aspire to be an active participant in the FUTURE College Access Program
- Community contributor (volunteer activities, community programs, etc.)
- Participant in extracurricular activities, sports, and/or student leadership

Notwithstanding the foregoing, confidential information may be disclosed by the Foundation if (i) such information is already public or in the public domain, (ii) the Foundation is legally required to disclose such information or (iii) the applicant or his or her legal guardian consents to such disclosure.
